Love it or hate it, Borderlands 3 is happening one way or another. Gearbox had a Battleborn focused PAX East panel and they couldn’t help but spill the news about the next Borderlands as well. This is a summary of what happened during their PAX East 2016 panel, from 1:18:00 to 1:22:00.
“It’s no secret, obviously there’s going to be another Borderlands.” Pitchford said. The crowd goes WILD. The art director for Battleborn said that his new project would be “Borderlands 3“. “We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that.” Pitchford added. Mikey Neumann announced that he was going to write the game. “Everyone dies,” he jokes. The conversation turns to the creation of Scooter’s illegitimate/legitimate son “Scooper”, which is a chipmunk pitch-toned version of Scooter. “Scooper is CANON” Mikey Neumann stated. But Pitchford only went with a “maybe”.
They went on to tell the audience that Battleborn DLC would have easter eggs for the next Borderlands game. Sort of. It actually seemed like the idea for Borderlands 3 easter eggs was proposed on-stage during the panel. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see the plan put into place, as they stated that past Borderlands games have easter egg moments as well.
Most of the conversation was centered around Gearbox’s Battleborn title, and the success of the beta. If you check out this article from yesterday, you can see a breakdown of some of the major statistics that the beta had.
If one guy played 368 matches of Battleborn in ten days, that’s a sign that SOMEBODY out there loves the game. I would go as far as to admit I’m keen on the silly humor of the Borderlands franchise.
