Dragon’s Dogma 2: How To Unlock The Warrior & Sorcerer | Advanced Vocations Guide

March 22, 2024 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Save yourself some Vocation Frustration.

Vocations are everything in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and two of the earliest vocations you can unlock are the Warrior and the Sorcerer. Very early in the game, you’ll reach the capital of Vernworth — and here you’ll be able to unlock additional vocations by completing a quest for the Vocations Guild. You don’t even need to complete the quest — as long as you bring the Vocation Guild a Greatsword and an Archistaff, you’ll be able to unlock these vocations.

The Warrior is an all-out fighter that uses two-handed weapons like Greatswords and Hammers, while the Sorcerer melts enemies with powerful elemental attacks. Getting the weapons is the tough part — finding Greatswords, Hammers and Archistaves is rare, but there’s one location where you can find both early in the game. Gain a few levels and we’ll show you how to get these useful jobs. Even if you don’t plan on using them, you’ll want to recruit Pawns that do.

How To Unlock Warrior & Sorcerer | Advanced Vocations

The first Advanced Vocations you can unlock are found in Vernworth, the Capital of Vermund. You’ll need to complete the tutorial and reach Vernworth before you can unlock these classes. Visit the Vocations Guild to the left of the Pawn Guild in the center of the Merchant Quarter. Talk to the guild vendor, and he’ll offer to unlock these Vocations if you bring the right items.

  • Advanced Vocations:
  • Warrior: Trade a Greatsword or Hammer to the Vernworth Vocation Guild. This Vocation is unlocked for 150 Dcp.
  • Sorceror: Trade an Archistaff to the Vernworth Vocation Guild. This Vocation is unlocked for 150 Dcp.

Talking to the Vocation Guild will unlock the quest ‘Vocation Frustration‘ — the vendor will ask you to help get supplies for Roderick’s Smithy.

  • Quest: Vocation Frustration – Talk to the Vocation Guild NPC in Vernworth to learn that Warriors and Sorcerors and currently not available. To acquire their weapons, you’ll need to talk to Roderick at Roderick’s Smithy in the Merchant Quarter.
  • Roderick will send you to Trevo Mine to the west of Vernworth. Follow the main road to the mine — it is guarded by Goblins and Hobgoblins.

You can freely explore Trevo Mine and collect the weapons there even if you don’t take the quest. You’ll need to be Level 5-10 before attempting to clear Trevo Mine. To acquire the weapons, look in large chests with round tops. Large chests always contain weapons, armor, accessories or valuable items.

  • Two-Hander: Greatsword – Enter Trevo Mine and progress straight through until you reach a room with a locked door. There’s a large chest here that contains the Two-Hander Greatsword. This is the standard Greatsword that unlocks with the Warrior Vocation.
  • Grievous Horns: Archistaff – In the room with the locked door, progress straightforward until you reach a larger room with a bridge in the center. Drop down into the ravine and explore to your right. There’s a narrow path accessible from the lowest floor that leads to a hidden chest.

With both weapons acquired, return to Vernworth and trade the items to the Vocation Guild. You’ll unlock both the Warrior and Sorcerer class. Each class costs 150 Dcp to unlock from the guild or any inn. You can also purchase the gear associated with each class from Roderick’s Smithy — but that isn’t required.

  • Free Vocation Set: Unlocking the Warrior or Sorcerer Vocation will also give you a full set of gear. You’ll get the armor set and weapon associated with that vocation for free. Don’t waste your money at Roderick’s Smithy!

The Warrior is a powerful job class with low defense but high damage. They’re nimble and strike hard with oversized weapons — their augments are particularly powerful, with the ability to revive themselves. Extremely useful for Pawns.

The Sorcerer is an attack-oriented Mage. They utilize strong magic spells that deal damage in wide areas or spread debilitating effects. Sorcerers do not heal, but they can imbue your weapons with elemental damage.

Both classes are extremely versatile and worth unlocking as soon as possible. There are many more Vocations to unlock and Maisters to meet to give you special, powerful skills. We’ll cover how to get even more job classes in the very near future, so keep watching this space and enjoy crushing even more monsters.
