Rise of the Ronin File Size Revealed

March 6, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

This may be Team Ninja’s most personal project to date.

We now know how much space Rise of the Ronin will be occupying on your PlayStation 5 console.

PlayStation Game Size sent out this tweet earlier today:

“Rise of the Ronin

Download Size: 96.343 GB

Version: 1.001.001

Standard Edition ($ 69.99):

Pre-Load : March 15 – Midnight

Release : March 22 – Midnight”

Rise of the Ronin recently became the subject of a surprising little controversy, as it had come to light that the game features a controversial historical figure in its story, one Shoin Yoshida. As a result of the controversy, the title seemed to have been pulled from release in South Korea, where Yoshida is disliked for having flouted the idea that Japan needs to hold dominion over Korea.

In the fallout of this issue, Sony claimed that they did not intend to release Rise of the Ronin in South Korea at all. This runs counter to some of the circumstantial evidence, but it’s clear that this was a political decision in the end.

For those gamers who aren’t going to be affected by the game’s historical context, this promises to be an incredible release. Team Ninja have demonstrated how well they can weave historical and mythical elements with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Now, they are looking to do the same thing for their own history, but with a clear slant towards historical education, on what was a dark period for Japan.

Rise of the Ronin was also originally believed to have been another Soulsborne, or maso-core game from Team Ninja, but the studio was quick to dispel that misconception by revealing that it would have three difficulty levels.

Again, Team Ninja is going the very opposite direction of the template FromSoftware created. Instead of an obtuse history that gamers are expected to fill in with their own imagination, Team Ninja wants to make gamers experience a very real history, that the textbooks are suffuse with details, but most modern day Japanese, much less most people who would be gamers today, would even know about.

The game’s file size doesn’t really say anything about how Team Ninja intends to tell this story. It does tell us how much the studio worked to make this a real modern title. As a PlayStation exclusive, it only makes sense that Team Ninja was tasked to make full use of the console’s capabilities, and that means bringing the highest production values to what may be their most personal project to date.

Rise of the Ronin will be releasing on March 22, 2024, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
