VR Game EVE: Valkyrie Will Support Cross-Platform Play

April 21, 2016 by Stephen Daly

CCP also offers new details on the upcoming Carrier Assault mode.

EVE: Valkyrie will support cross-platform play at some point in the future, developer CCP has confirmed.

The space shooter, set within CCP’s EVE Online universe, will allow for players on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR to all play the game against each other. Executive producer Owen O’Brien confirmed the news during the opening ceremony of the developer’s annual Fanfest event in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik with Polygon reporting from the event.

Those wishing to check out Valkyrie can currently do so as an Oculus Rift Early Access title. As mentioned earlier, the game is also in development for the HTC Vive and Sony’s PlayStation VR headset which will be released in October.

“What we haven’t said before, and will for the first time here on stage is cross-platform play.” Eve: Valkyrie O’Brien told the crowd at Fanfest.

“Valkyrie from the outset was made as a VR game, and we want people irrespective of the platform they’re playing on to be able to fight together and die together,” he said. “So that’s a big important thing for us. That everyone can play together and we break down the barriers.”

O’Brien also provided some details on the Carrier Assault mode that’s currently being planned for the game. The mode, which is described as an advancement of the current Control mode, will task players with whittling down the shields of an enemy carrier ship, destroying its various defensive turrets, and then boarding the vessel in order to destroy its crucial core.

The above video will give you an idea of what to expect.

CCP will also use the Fanfest to discuss the developer’s vision for EVE Online over the next year and will hopefully have some big news to share.
