Gamestop goes into Publishing with GameTrust

April 18, 2016 by Nick Monroe

It’s the logical next step for the video game store giant.

When we first heard about Song of the Deep being published by Gamestop in early January, questions were raised about the company’s interest in the video game publishing process.

Now we have a more solid idea as to Gamestop’s plans, with their announcement of the GameTrust publishing branch.

Three developers have signed on to the publisher, joining alongside Insomniac Games:  Tequila Works (Deadlight), Ready at Dawn (The Order: 1886), and Frozenbyte (Trine).

Creative control will be in the hands of the developers. GameTrust’s main purpose will be centered around marketing and distribution of video game titles. Given the fact that GameTrust will be making games that go on to GameStop shelves, the company reassured that GameTrust will operate separately from GameStop.

Vice President of internal development at Gamestop, Mark Stanley, said that these first four partners were not “going to let a bad game go out the door”. He went on to say that they were going to focus on smaller games and “launching them at times of the year where we stay away from that massive fourth quarter craziness.”

You can find the website for GameTrust here, but it’s currently down at the moment.
