There is a lot of excitement now for whatever Larian Studios is working on. If you don’t recall the name, this studio brought out Baldur’s Gate 3, a title that blew up online upon its release last year. So, while fans are still going through the game, especially on Xbox with the Xbox Series X/S platform just recently getting the title, Larian Studios is pressing forward with their next project. Unfortunately, we don’t know just what that might be at the moment. We will also likely not see what this next project will be for a good while.
Those hopeful that an announcement is inbound will be out of luck. Baldur’s Gate 3 just launched last year, so it also shouldn’t be surprising that the studio is not ready to make any reveals. With that said, it looks like Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios and lead developer for Baldur’s Gate 3, has mentioned his current project. Taking to the X social media platform, Swen stated that it’s been four months of constantly rewriting ideas.
After abandoning some ideas, it seems that Swen is finally at the point where he’s satisfied with what Act 1 on this new project should be. Swen goes on in a thread of posts noting that no one has seen this Act 1 draft quite yet, and there’s a chance others will not find the same level of amusement. If that’s the case, it could very well mean going back to the table and reworking his idea into something else. But at the very least, Swen seems to be excited about whatever this project is.
Furthermore, Swen offers some advice to those who are also going through the creative process of making a story. The dev states that you’ll find that several ideas will get abandoned and that these drafts could come back to fruition years later. It’s all about finding the right path for your recycled work. At any rate, Swen did confirm that this is not a teaser for an upcoming announcement. Instead, it’s just a genuine excitement over finally working through months to find how to structure the first act of this project. Whether this project relates to Baldur’s Gate 3 or a brand-new game is anyone’s guess right now.
