News Anchor Called Out After Insulting Tetris Players’ Accomplishment

January 4, 2024 by Todd Black

Don’t mock him because you couldn’t do it!

There are many “sad things” about the video game space that haven’t been overcome despite being alive for decades. For example, there is still a perception that “women don’t play video games,” and even when they do, “they aren’t very good.” That’s false on both accounts. Then, there is the general hate that is thrown at video gamers by other gamers due to nothing more than a toxic personality and behavior. But perhaps the biggest thing that hasn’t been overcome in the gaming space is the general perception by some that playing video games, even classics like Tetris, just “aren’t worth it.”

Yes, plenty of people out there believe that video games are “just for kids” and that anyone who plays them, makes them, or achieves anything through them is just “wasting their time.” This was shown via a British news anchor in the clip below when she talked about how one American video gamer did something that many felt was impossible. His name is Blue Scuti, and while playing the original NES version of Tetris, he not only maxed out the score on his game but also played it for so long that the game had what is known as a “kill screen.” That happens when the game’s code legitimately can’t continue the game and thus freezes. As a result, Blue became the first person to ever “beat” a game of Tetris.

Now, while many of us in the gaming space would be cheering for such an accomplishment, the British host took a different track and noted that Blue should “step away, go outside” and that beating the game “is not a life goal.” All the while doing a very “you are so stupid, kid” smile.

There are so many things to say here that it’s almost sad. The good news is that many people in the comments and who have seen this clip have blasted the news host for her comments and noted that it’s her that needs to “go outside.” We agree with these people wholeheartedly for a variety of reasons.

First of all, Blue is just 13 years old, so he likely doesn’t have “life goals.” Second, because Blue is the first person to do this, he’ll be a Guinness World Record holder, which is a really good accomplishment for only being 13!

Finally, video games aren’t “just for kids,” there are millionaires in the video game space and fully grown adults who are icons because of their work in the video game field. Maybe if this news anchor had done research…she would’ve known that.
