Final Fantasy XVI DLC Echoes of the Fallen Available Now, The Rising Tide Coming Next Year

December 7, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

It’s a nice little surprise for the fans.

Square Enix has just unveiled two DLC packs for Final Fantasy XVI, that are also bundled in an Expansion Pass.

The two DLC packs are named Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, respectively. Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide will be released this Summer 2024, while Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen is already live today.

On PlayStation Blog, Square Enix shared this description of Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen:

“Echoes of the Fallen unlocks a whole new story, battles, weapons, accessories, level cap and more. For players who have completed the required quests, this new adventure begins before the base game’s final battle, as strange, dark crystals begin to circulate on the black market.

Players will follow Clive and his friends during their investigations as they encounter a group of suspicious traders, leading them to a long-abandoned Fallen tower known as the Sagespire. There, they will unravel the terrible secrets that await within.”

As for Final Fantasy XVI: The Rising Tide, Square Enix won’t share the details yet. The title obviously hints at its aquatic setting, and Square Enix at least let slip that this is where Clive will come face to face with the Eikon Leviathan.

Both Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide are paid DLC, but you get a nominal discount if you buy them together as part of the Expansion Pass. If you buy Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen or the Expansion pass now, you can also get these bonuses:

Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword

Away (1987) Orchestration Roll – a chiptune version of this song

Lastly, to celebrate the occasion of Final Fantasy XVI receiving five nominations, and winning Best Score and Music, Square Enix has put the base game itself up for sale. So if you haven’t picked up Final Fantasy XVI yet for the PlayStation 5, now is a really good time to do that.

But then again, you may be one of many gamers who deliberately chose not to pick the game up because it is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, you are likely sitting on the recently confirmed PC release. It warrants repeating that Final Fantasy XVI was definitely a profitable release for the platform, but Square Enix themselves stated that the title did not perform according to expectations. As ironic as it seemed, the platform exclusivity, on the platform that was most expected to see sales anyway, seems to have been the reason for this.

Perhaps Square Enix can make up for the difference when the PC port finally releases. In the meantime, you can watch the DLC trailer below.
