Tactics-based RPGs have seen a resurgence in recent years, and 2024 will have a few titles that fit that mold.
#6 Neon Blood
Welcome to the year 2053. If you’re hoping that this game features a peaceful future, you clearly haven’t played too many RPGs. You are Axel McCoin, a former police detective who is on a personal mission to not only help the people of Viridis but also bring down the corruption that both surrounds it and is within it.
Your choices in this city will help determine what allies you can get for battle and how the story progresses. So, when you see the various dialogue options portrayed for Axel, make sure you take note of them before randomly pressing one. You might regret it later.
Either way, this 2.5 Cyberpunk title will have you on the edge of your seat for a while.
#5 Rogue Waters
Pirate RPGs aren’t something you see too often, but Rogue Waters attempts to make something special by changing the way you play as a pirate. You’ll play Captain Cutter, who sets sail to learn the truth behind an ancient prophecy and to do battle with the infamous Captain Blackbone.
The journey won’t be easy, as there are numerous other pirates and ships that are more than willing to get in your way. When battles emerge, you’ll need to think quickly and strategically to overwhelm them and send them to Davy Jones’ locker!
Your crew is only as good as you make them! So, recruit the perfect shipmates, and then raise them to be the best pirates on the seven seas!
#4 New Arc Line
When you went to the “new world,” you had only one goal. You wanted to find a cure within this “advanced land” to help save your family. But your hopes are dashed when you arrive and find out the place is more corrupt than you could’ve possibly imagined!
You must take a stand and help free this place while finding a way to help your family. Your decisions will alter how the game goes, including who you work with to take down this corrupt place and how you’ll do it. What will things look like by the time you’re done? You’ll have to play and find out!
#3 HeatWave
In the future climate change has become so drastic that the United States has made a bold decision that will affect numerous nations. With thin resources, it abandons Alaska, as they can’t support it from so far away.
In response, Russia decided to try to reclaim its “lost colony” and would do so with force. Oh, and China is going to help Russia do this because why not?
The people of Alaska aren’t open to this kind of invasion and will create resistance groups to fight back. Command these groups and find ways to stick it to your oppressors! Can you free your homes from the invaders?
#2 Sword of Convallaria
Welcome to Iria. The country is known for its materials that have magical properties. That makes the land special, but it also makes it a target for those who know what power it can unlock. You are a mercenary leader who comes in to help the people of the land fight off their invaders.
But it won’t be easy. Classic tactics-based combat will be in play here. You’ll need to gain allies and then guide them across a grid so that they can unleash attacks on foes. Plus, your choices will affect the plot. Each decision can lead to different battles and effects. So choose wisely.
#1 Persona 3 Reload
With respect to the other games, nothing was going to top Persona 3 Reload on this list. After all, the game is all about tactics in how you use your team to defeat the various monsters of a dark world!
In the game, you’re a transfer student who gets wrapped up in a mystery involving two worlds and a “Dark Hour” that can cause terrible things to happen. You must unlock your Persona and team up with other Persona users to fight back the darkness and return everything to how it was.
Use your team wisely to exploit weaknesses and do maximum damage to foes!
