6 Best NEW Looter Shooters of 2024

September 5, 2024 by Todd Black

Loot it. Shoot it. Be happy!

Table of Contents[Hide][Show]
  • #6 Road to Vostok
  • #5 The Forever Winter
  • #4 Incursion Red River
  • #3 The First Descendant
  • #2 Tom Clancy’s The Division 3
  • #1 Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Looter shooters may not be the longest tenured genre in gaming, but they have made their impact, and 2024 will be full of them.

Update: We will continue to update this list periodically throughout the year, so you will likely see some games removed or added. These games are not ranked in any particular order, as the focus here is to showcase titles we are excited to see hit the marketplace.

#6 Road to Vostok

Not all looter shooters are the same, and Road to Vostok aims to prove that by not only giving players a truly “realistic” experience but by ensuring that they give it their all, as death is truly the end. In the game, you’ll head to the mysterious “Vostok Zone” and attempt to get through it while taking on all sorts of challenges. You’ll face numerous threats, have to get all your resources and materials, and ensure that you are healthy throughout.

If you die in the game, that’s it. You have to start all the way from the beginning. Do you think you can survive in this world?

#5 The Forever Winter

In numerous games and other pieces of media, when you hear that there’s a war going on, you’re typically one of the people fighting on the front lines. However, in The Forever Winter, you’re not. Instead, you’re someone who’s trying to get by while the war is raging and attempting to get supplies for yourself so you can make it to the next day.

The problem is that while the enemy units might not notice you at first, the more things you do and the closer you get to the fights, the more likely they are to see you and chase after you.

Fight if you feel you can, but don’t be afraid to run. You’ll live longer if you do.

#4 Incursion Red River

There are many video games that either set themselves in historical settings or try to guess what might happen in the future and make a game based on that. In Incursion Red River, you’ll find yourself in Vietnam during a civil war. You are a contractor who is brought in to help ‘settle things,’ but you’re more interested in the pay you’ll get through the missions you do.

The more you do, the more you’ll get paid and the better weapons and gear you’ll unlock for your character. You can even play with friends to try and get the missions done more quickly!

However, there are also some “dark truths” you’ll uncover as you progress through the game…

#3 The First Descendant

Here’s another looter shooter that you can play with friends, and you’ll have cool powers to boot!

The First Descendant puts you in a world where an alien invasion threatens to wipe out the remains of humanity, and a group known as the Descendants is the only thing holding back the tide. As you would expect from a game like this, each Descendant has different abilities and skills they can use in battle. As such, you’ll want to try each out and see just how far you can push them.

Then, team up with friends, fight massive boss battles and get new weapons to blast through foes.

#2 Tom Clancy’s The Division 3

While we are putting Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 on this list, we should make it clear that it’s not likely to come out in 2024. Why? It was JUST announced, and the team at Massive Entertainment, who will work on this game, are currently working on two other titles. One of them is set on Pandora, and the other is in a galaxy far, far away. Get our drift?

Regardless, the gameplay should be similar to what you’ve done before in the original titles, including going to various zones and trying to get more gear to fight off foes. The only question will be about where the game is set.

#1 Destiny 2: The Final Shape

These last two entries will be a bit ironic, given their “states” and whether fans will enjoy them. We will start with Destiny 2: The Final Shape, which Bungie recently delayed. Or, at least, they said it was delayed, then they said it wasn’t. It’s confusing.

Regardless, this is the final DLC for their sci-fi title. It’ll bring everything and everyone that you’ve campaigned alongside together to fight The Witness and stop their plans for the universe. New locations and powers will help make the content stand out.

But will it be enough, given all that’s happened? Only time will tell.

Ashfall, Alterborn, Nakwon: Last Paradise and Earth From Another Sun were removed due to now being slated for 2025.
