It took years after the release of Alan Wake before Remedy Entertainment could return and bring out a proper sequel. The game development team had previously tried to deliver a game installment to keep the narrative going for Alan Wake; however, nothing quite lined up in their favor. Instead, they went on to create games like Quantum Break and Control. However, since the release of Control, the developers were finally able to pick Alan Wake back up and deliver a new game for fans. Now that this Alan Wake 2 game is finally available, the development studio is crediting the folks over at Epic Games for giving them the creative freedom required to deliver such an acclaimed hit.
Recently, Thomas Puha, the communications director for Remedy Entertainment, took to their X account and thanked Epic Games for publishing Alan Wake 2. According to Thomas, Epic Games was incredibly supportive and allowed the development team to make the game they wanted. This is undoubtedly a positive for a developer. Typically, a publisher could make some requests on the game development process. However, with Epic Games giving the reigns over to the development team, the game was developed from the creative ideas from Remedy Entertainment rather than the studio having to make different adjustments to ensure the game met the publisher’s expectations.
Ultimately, this looks to have been the right call, as the title has been receiving great reception from both critics and players alike. Of course, now we have to wait and see if this IP will continue to see new installments released into the marketplace. We know right now that the game development studio is working on the sequel to Control, which is another current-generation platform release only.
With that said, if you haven’t been keeping tabs on Alan Wake 2, the game is readily available to purchase today. The title takes place several years after the events of the first game, where Alan is trapped in the Dark Place. Players will be splitting up their time with Alan and a newcomer to the franchise, Saga Anderson. Saga is an FBI agent who was sent to Bright Falls to uncover the truth behind a series of ritualistic murders.
Currently, Alan Wake 2 is available to play on PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X/S platforms. However, this is a digital-only release, so those who want a physical copy are left out of luck right now.
