Alan Wake 2 Will Have New Game Plus, Nightmare Difficulty, And More

October 26, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

This may be a bit of corner cutting but it really doesn’t harm the gamers as much as it helps Remedy get games out on time.

Remedy has revealed that Alan Wake 2 will get a few additions after release.

First off, and as you may have expected, there will be New Game Plus. For extremely difficult games like Alan Wake 2, fans will definitely want the chance to go through the narrative campaign a second time to dominate with all the experience and upgrades added in, compared to when they struggled the first time.

Secondly, there will be a Nightmare Difficulty. Now, it may boggle the mind that someone would even want to play this game on Nightmare. But, as every avid horror fan can tell you, the more times you watch and expose yourself to horror, the less scary it becomes. If you’re that hardcore Alan Wake 2 player who will go through the game again and again, you are probably looking for this mode. It won’t be there at launch, but Remedy is working on it right now.

Finally, and perhaps most intriguingly, Remedy promises an alternative narrative. It sounds like Remedy is writing this to be a new campaign. While there will probably be some shared assets, such as settings and cutscenes, they also promise it will have new video content and new Manuscript pages.

Remedy ends this message by stating that the release date for all these additions are to be dated in the future. It seems we can expect this to be like Control’s additional content. While Control was published by 505 Games, Remedy released the original game in 2019, and came out with two story expansions in 2020.

So, it may take as much as a year for Remedy to come out with all these additions after the launch. To be real, yes, that is a long time to wait, but comparatively speaking, it’s perfectly reasonable. In this era where games are expected to take five years to make, this is one small bit of corner cutting that really won’t harm players, and helps Remedy release their games in a timely manner.

For all the limitations placed on Alan Wake 2, Remedy does seem dead set on still providing us fans with a top tier experience, the same as with their other releases.

Alan Wake 2 will be released on October 27, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via Epic Games Store. As of this writing, the game is not scheduled to be released on Steam. It will also only be available as a digital download.
