A surprising leak has come up for upcoming DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 1.
Redditor Quan_Chi shares this clip from Dan Allen Gaming in an interview with Andrew Morgado, the voice actor for Reptile in the new game. In the clip he shared, Morgado claimed that he was in the studio when Robert Patrick himself appeared, and that Robert would be voicing the T-1000. Quan_Chi has then captioned this with the claim that T-1000 will be coming in Mortal Kombat 1.
Of course, the T-1000 was the big baddie in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. In that film, the T-1000 itself appeared to be a mass of silver that could shapeshift into any human form it wanted to. As Terminator 2: Judgement Day’s director James Cameron revealed in his biography, he chose to have the T-1000 take the identity of a cop for most of the film.
While he initially struggled with how to make the abstract idea of a liquid menace relatable, he caught the cultural zeitgeist of distrust vs cops in America following the Rodney King beating. They then cast a young Robert Patrick in the role, as a lean, lithe actor, who could successfully project a menace that could go toe to toe with former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 made an appearance in the prior Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat 11. There probably isn’t much point to speculate on the lore behind this, as Mortal Kombat’s guest characters are generally understood to be pure fan service and fall outside the franchise’s storylines.
But it is certainly strange that the T-800 and T-1000 are appearing in different games. But then, it is possible that NetherRealm planned to bring Arnold back for this game as well. That would also enable a really fun faceoff between two 80s icons, as Arnold’s T-800 could fight Jean Claude Van Damme finally playing Johnny Cage as Ed Boon always wanted.
There isn’t much we can say about this rumor’s veracity. This seems to be an episode of Dan Allen Gaming that hasn’t been uploaded to YouTube to verify. At the same time, we can clearly see the actor making the claim in person in that clip.
If true, it will certainly be another fun crossover character to add to that roster, meeting up with Homelander, Omni-Man, Peacekeeper, and all the other funny comics characters showing up in Mortal Kombat 1, for no real clear reason.
