Blizzard has revealed Season 2 of Diablo IV, and it comes with a surprising guest star.
The new Season is called Season of Blood, and to put it straight, it’s the vampire hunting quest.
Blizzard shares this description of the season on their blog:
“At the behest of their dark master, a newly turned army of ravenous vampires has set their sights on Sanctuary. The master’s sinister plot remains a shrouded mystery but their pursuit for the blood of innocents has caused an uproar. You must learn to hunt the hunter—your fate depends on it.”
As you may imagine, this season comes with a new Questline, as well as five additional endgame bosses. You can also earn Vampiric Powers, though it isn’t quite clear what those powers are quite yet.
We do get the clear introduction of Erys, a new character voiced by Gemma Chan. Erys is a vampire hunter who has been stalking her prey throughout Sanctuary, and will probably be dishing out exposition throughout the season as well.
For those who haven’t had the pleasure, Gemma Chan is a Hong Kong Chinese actress who has been working in Hollywood for the better half of two decades. Most fans will know her most recent projects, including Crazy Rich Asians, Eternals, and Raya and The Last Dragon. But her work actually goes all the way back to Doctor Who (David Tennant) in 2009, and Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) in 2010.
This does seem to be Gemma’s first video game project. Given that Blizzard have clearly made sure her semblance is on Erys, she will be a familiar face for Diablo players soon enough.
Blizzard also gave some clear details on what updates are coming alongside this new season:
- More efficient Inventory management for Gems.
- Paragon Points, Skill Points, Potion Charges, and Obol capacity upgrades will now carry over into a new Season once achieved with an Eternal or previous Seasonal Realm character.
- Changes to the functionality of status effects such as Vulnerable, Overpower, Critical Strike Damage and also Elemental Resistances.
- Better target farming of uniques and super uniques
- Stashes can be searched and filtered
As you can imagine, Blizzard is only giving us just a taste of what’s up in store for players. We’ll learn everything once Season 2 drops this October 17, 2023.
