Starfield Might Only Support AMD FSR According To New Datamine

August 18, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

AMD or bust?

We are nearing the launch of Starfield, as it is easily one of the biggest and most anticipated video games of 2023. This Microsoft exclusive might be coming to the marketplace next month, but fans are already worried it might be lacking. A new data mine was recently reported that has raised eyebrows for PC players. We might find that Starfield is only launching into the marketplace with AMD FSR. To some, that might not be a big deal at all. At the same time, others might be a little more than displeased.

Thanks to a report from PCGamesN, we’re finding out that Starfield’s datamine shows no Nvidia DLSS or Intel XeSS. That could mean Starfield will only launch into the marketplace with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, better known as FSR. Now, if this all sounds like technical jargon, we can offer more insight. Essentially, these software pieces allow a game to use a lower resolution and upscale it. That provides a better image for the game, along with improved performance. So naturally, this is something you would want to be featured in any new PC game coming out into the marketplace.

But that might not be the case for Starfield. You very well might find this game only launching with AMD FSR, and that’s got quite a few gamers upset and worried. One area to point out that PCGamesN even notes is that AMD is the partner for Starfield on PC. That might be one of the reasons why we’re not seeing Nvidia or Intel featured here. Although since the game is not quite out yet, we’re left waiting on the launch or reviews to confirm if this is the case or not.

Recently, the developers offered fans a quick Q&A session. Here we receive a little more insight with a total of sixteen questions answered. Everything from housing, punishments for crimes, and smuggling illegal cargo to even some of the character creation traits were answered. If you missed out on the Q&A that happened, we have the full breakdown right here. Meanwhile, Starfield is already finding leaks online, so it’s best to tread lightly if you wish to avoid some of the leaks that emerge online.

As for when you personally can pick up a copy of the game, it’s time to mark your calendars. Starfield is set to launch on September 6, 2023. When the game releases into the marketplace, you’ll find it available for the PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms. However, since this is a first-party Microsoft title, you’ll also find the game available within the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
