Is Lenovo Bringing Out A Steam Deck Killer?

July 31, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Details are scarce.

There is a big market lately with portable gaming PC handhelds. With Valve releasing the Steam Deck into the marketplace, fans quickly gravitated towards the handheld. It offered players a means to enjoy some of their favorite PC games, both Steam and alternative launchers, on the go. Since then, we have seen some alternatives come into the marketplace in hopes of carving out a slice of this market. For instance, one of the big competitors to come out that offered a similar device was the ASUS ROG Ally. But now it looks like Lenovo will soon throw its own take into the marketplace.

Nothing is official right now, and it will be that way until Lenovo finally unveils what they are working on. But a new report surfaced online through Windows Central. The report noted that sources confirmed to the publication that Lenovo was looking to bring its own take into the mobile handheld gaming market. The contents that were revealed so far were that this device would be using the AMD Phoenix processors, which is a Ryzen chip that is powerful and thin. That has the publication assuming we’ll get a new Windows PC gaming handheld.

Furthermore, it’s believed that the company will be using the scrapped Lenovo Legion Play, which was aimed to deliver an Android-based handheld gaming device. As a result, we might see a device that sports a larger screen coming in at 8”, which might make it more enticing if players are strictly looking to get a handheld with a larger screen for gaming. Meanwhile, that’s about all right now that is speculated, so we’re still very much in the dark regarding the other notable components powering this device up.

Additionally, while the market is slowly filling up with portable Windows gaming PCs, it would be interesting to see where the Lenovo device will be marked when it comes to a price point. Likewise, we’re certainly interested in seeing how it compares to the dominant Steam Deck. Of course, when it comes to gaming, most might be keen on going with the Valve Steam Deck as there is a push by so many developers to ensure that their handheld has the Steam Deck Verified confirmation status. That at least ensures that the game players are after will run as intended by the development team. This is something we won’t see for the likes of the upcoming Lenovo handheld.
