New Sources Confirm Nintendo Switch Successor Will Release In 2024

July 31, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Get ready for the next big thing.

Nintendo has been thriving with its latest console hybrid release. The Nintendo Switch was the success that they needed after coming off the failed Wii U console platform. Now that the Nintendo Switch is getting a bit old in its life cycle, all eyes have been focused on what Nintendo will be bringing out next. Of course, those interested in the platform hope that Nintendo will consider backward compatibility.

As mentioned in the title, a new report has surfaced online that claims sources to them are confirming a 2024 release. That report comes from VGC, which says two individual sources have expressed the publication of a 2024 release date. The details are scarce right now, and that’s not too surprising. But from what VGC has heard, this new console successor for the Nintendo Switch will keep up with the portable form factor. So we’ll once again likely see a device you can take on the go while also being dockable for your home television. Meanwhile, there won’t be an OLED screen when the device launches; this is apparently done to ensure Nintendo can keep the price down as they bumped up the internal storage.

Physical cartridges will once again be used for video games, but we don’t know yet if this means the new cartridge slot will support the current Nintendo Switch library of games. That’s something Nintendo may struggle with when it comes to releasing this next-generation console platform. The Nintendo Switch was a huge hit, and as a result, some consumers might not be keen to upgrade if it means they can’t use their current library of video games on the new hardware.

Additionally, it’s reported to release in the second half of 2024. That is to allow Nintendo to produce enough units for the console. Overall, Nintendo is hoping to avoid the limited stock issues Microsoft and Sony had with their latest-generation console platforms. But again, this is nothing official right now. We don’t know just when Nintendo will finally unveil their Switch successor either. Of course, Nintendo fans are undoubtedly eager to see that next big console release from the company and what changes they made this time around, such as fixing the dreaded Joy-Con drift issue. For now, we’ll just have to continue and wait for Nintendo to make the official grand reveal.
