I reported earlier that numerous gaming websites which supposedly attended last night's CD Projekt RED conference on The Witcher 2 (The Sixth Axis, and Gamepur) were reporting that the third game had been announced.
Contrary to those reports, VG247 spoke to VP of Business Development at CDP Michal Nowakowski that under no circumstances was the game announced.
"Now that is a surprise – I was at that conference as a matter of fact and I can assure you nothing of the sort was announced," he told VG247 in an e-mail. "You can actually watch that conference yourself at our Facebook site and I assure you we did not say a single word on Witcher 3, its release dates, and platforms. I can 100% confirm, we have not announced Witcher 3."
I think we can safely conclude that the overactive imaginations of journalists excited for a third game overrode their logical circuits and caused them to write articles—three of them, simultaneously—"confirming" the planned release of The Witcher 3. Getting a traffic spike from the erroneous report would have had nothing to do with that. Right.
I personally contacted Tom Ohle, VP of PR and Marketing at CD Projekt RED. He had this to say: "Nope, didn't happen. Not sure where it's coming from; team's focused on Witcher 2 for 360, along with the Enhanced Edition, and that's that!"
Edit: I have updated this article to reflect on the fact that Beefjack did not confirm the rumor and was in fact—like us—in the process of contacting the publisher to verify the story.
