Sony has released a new story trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Talking about this trailer will obviously lead to story spoilers big and small. If that’s what you want, you can go ahead and keep reading below.
As we already know, the antagonist for at least most of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Kraven. He has arrived at New York with the explicit intent to hunt the Spider-Men, and he has brought a small army of hunters alongside him.
However, this story brings together Peter Parker’s set of relationships from across the comics over to the video games, and it seems set to complicate matters.
The trailer starts with Peter reassuring a partly disabled Harry Osborne. Peter introduces Harry later as his best friend, to Miles Morales. Miles seems to be worried that the arrival of Pete’s old friend would cut into his ‘training’ with Miles, but Pete says they will figure it out.
Of course, as you already know by now, this trailer is also all about Venom, who is set to make a huge splash in the video game version of the Spider-Man universe. We have also already known for some time that Venom would be voiced by veteran horror actor Tony Todd, but that was pretty much like James Earl Jones being the voice of Darth Vader.
We didn’t know which character was going to be Venom in this new game. Now, this trailer seems to heavily suggest that Venom will actually be Harry.
Please note that I had described this as ‘heavily suggest.’ Of course, we can expect Sony to weave a story with the trailer, that may mislead us to actual events in the game when we finally get to play them.
What I found notable was that the trailer did not expressly show Harry’s face under the cowl, and for that matter, we also didn’t get to see the symbiote remove itself to show its host’s identity.
We do know that this Venom is not going to be Eddie Brock, as Sony has made it clear that they have chosen to go in a different direction.
So the big question we are asking is, who is actually under that big bad symbiote? Is it Harry Osborne? Is it Harry’s dad Norman Osborne, who also shows up in this trailer? Or has the unthinkable happened to Peter?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on October 20, 2023 exclusively on PlayStation 5. You can watch the trailer below.
