Square Enix Addresses Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo’s Framerate, Resolution And Performance Issues

April 4, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

The developers of Final Fantasy XV talk about issues surrounding the Platinum Demo.

Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo
Anyone who’s played the Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo will attest to the fact that the framerate is terrible. It’s incredibly sluggish and runs at a fraction of the usual framerate (30 to 60) you might get out of a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One game, giving many of its players a bad impression of the upcoming JRPG.

The game’s demo is said to run at 1080p on a dynamic resolution, with the technical specifications identical on both the PS4 and Xbox One systems.

Speaking to Dengeki Online, the game’s director Hajime Tabata said that the framerate in the demo is not reflective of its performance in the full game. Tabata also said that though the Platinum Demo runs the same on both console platforms, this may not be the case with the full release, which may see better optimizations on either platform catering to the limitations and specs of each system.

The developer said that Square Enix will spend time between now and the game’s September 30 launch to optimize the game to make it run and look as good as possible. The studio has no further plans to do anything with Platinum Demo, so don’t expect any updates for it like they did with Episode Duscae.

The game will be showcased at this year’s E3 and other events prior to its launch, and both the public and the press will be able to experience the title in development.

Tabata says that there will likely be free and paid DLC for the game, but the studio is unable to disclose what these are at this time. He also reiterated that the studio will look into porting the game to the PC after it launches on the console.

Final Fantasy XV will be out on September 30 for PS4 and Xbox One.
