Original Story…

Mortal Kombat fans are eagerly awaiting the next mainline installment to release. After Mortal Kombat 11, most of us assumed that the next step would be to bring out a Mortal Kombat 12. But we were so wrong. We now know that the next game is a brand new timeline, so we’re getting Mortal Kombat 1. Now NetherRealm Studios has been teasing this game quite a bit and leaving fans wondering just who might be returning from the past franchise installments. Fortunately, today, we’re getting a few new reveal confirmations.

A new trailer dropped today, giving a look at some additional characters. This new video footage gives another look into the narrative, although we’re still left wondering how this storyline will go since this is a brand-new timeline. At any rate, the new characters to be confirmed in this game are Smoke, Frost, Rain, Sektor, and Cyrax. Those characters will be available in the game, but not all will be playable. It looks like from the new additions unveiled, Smoke and Rain will be the two new playable characters in the roster.

Meanwhile, that makes Sektor, Frost, and Cyrax Kameo fighters. If you’re not familiar with what Kameo fighters are, they are essentially secondary fighters to lend a hand during your battle. They can jump in and deliver some helpful combo moves. But they are not tag team members, so you won’t actually get to switch into these characters to play. Now with that said, some of these Kameo fighters will still be on the main roster, so it’s just a few of the additional characters that will show up to lend a hand without actually being available for players to take control of.

As for Mortal Kombat 1’s storyline, the game will be taking place in a new timeline. We know that some characters’ relationships and views have changed as a result. So when the game does drop, it will be interesting to see where some character loyalties now lay compared to the previous video game installments. Currently, Mortal Kombat 1 is set to launch on September 19, 2023. When the game does release, you’ll find it available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. In the meantime, you can check out the latest trailer, which reveals the new character additions down below.
