Microsoft Is Increasing Xbox Series X & Game Pass Prices

June 21, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Here’s what we know so far.

It’s never a thrill to hear you’ll have to pay more for a service or product, but that’s what will happen for the Microsoft Xbox Series X and Game Pass subscription services. You will, however, find that the Xbox Series S will remain at its current price. While you might have assumed the prices would stay where they are, it looks like the team over at Xbox will have to readjust their pricing. For the Xbox Series X console, in particular, this price hike will happen in select countries.

Thanks to a report from The Verge, we’re learning that the Xbox Series X will remain at its price within the United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, and lastly Colombia. Everywhere else will see the price adjusted a bit. You’ll have to check your select market to see what the price will move up to in the coming months. This will reportedly happen starting August 1, 2023. That means you should have time to scoop up an Xbox Series X console at its current pricing, but those looking to pick one up in time for the holiday season this year will have to dig a little bit deeper in your wallet.

We’ve held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market.

Meanwhile, every market will see a rise in the Game Pass subscription service. This will happen next month and won’t be a significant rise. Although it will be a rise nonetheless, so again, prepare your wallets. Currently, the standard price for Game Pass is $9.99, but that will soon change to $10.99 a month. Meanwhile, for the premium tier Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription service, you’ll find that the price will jump up to $16.99 from its current $14.99. Now you will see these changes take place next month or whenever your current subscription comes to an end if it goes beyond next month’s price hike.

While you might be paying a few bucks more for access, it still might be a well-worth investment for the service. Players are getting all of Microsoft first-party video game titles released. Likewise, you’ll have several third-party video game titles to download and play. Of course, this price increase does come in time before the biggest Microsoft first-party title launches this year. Bethesda’s Starfield is set to launch this September 6, 2023. That alone should drive plenty of subscriptions and renewals.
