Notch Wants to Spy on You

January 25, 2012 by Josh Harmon

Has the beloved Minecraft creator finally turned evil?

Mojang founder, hat enthusiast, and all-around unassuming fellow Markus "Notch" Persson has finally snapped, announcing that he'll be using his enormously popular game Minecraft to spy on people.

Well, we all knew it was coming eventually. You give someone that much money and power and it's only a matter of time before the scale tips towards utter evil.

What? You say he's doing it so the dev team can learn how to make the game better? And he only wants to collect anonymous data about things like session length, operating system, and preferred game modes? And he's going to share everything he gathers with the community to keep things completely transparent? And he's even holding a poll on his blog to ask for permission?

Dammit, Notch. You're just too nice for your own good. At this rate, we'll never get to run our pre-written obituary that says you died in a shootout with police following the breakup of your international drug smuggling ring.
