A New Job Listing Discovery Suggests Nintendo Is Nearing The Completion Of Their Next Console

June 7, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

A Nintendo Switch successor is inbound?

The folks over at Nintendo had a very successful run with their Nintendo Switch platform. After the Nintendo Wii U failed, the company returned to the drawing board rather quickly. Fortunately, thanks to their quick work, they were able to turn things around with the Nintendo Switch, but we’re now looking onward to see what is next. In terms of console lifecycles, the Nintendo Switch is on its way out the door, and something new will be taking its place.

Unfortunately, nothing official has been revealed just yet. It could be a good while before anything notable is unveiled as well. But a new job listing that was recently discovered suggests that the company is nearing the end of developing a new console. Thanks to a report from Gamerant, we’re finding out about a job listing for a system developer based in Japan. In particular, the listing notes that they are seeking a senior engineer to help support a big game company based out of Kyoto.

The listing notes that this would aid in the work going into a next-generation console. Furthermore, it looks like this would also assist with customer feedback. So the consensus is that there will be a focus group to check out this latest-generation console coming from Nintendo. Then the feedback would be used to make last-minute changes before settling on the unit for mass production. That could mean we’re relatively close to the next-generation Nintendo console and, with it, likely some teases of what players could expect.

Nintendo likes to innovate and make unique changes to the way players enjoy video games. So we’re interested in seeing if the same concept of a hybrid console will continue with this next successor release from Nintendo. Of course, portable gaming has been a significant component for Nintendo, so if this is not a hybrid, it would be interesting to see if there will soon be a follow-up portable console release to replace the Nintendo Switch as Nintendo’s portable handheld offering.

Of course, this is all just rumors and speculation right now, as there have been no official statements made by Nintendo when it comes to their next-generation console release. Currently, fans are waiting to see if Nintendo makes any official statements on whether we’ll be getting a June Nintendo Direct this year.
