She is part of the game’s second DLC pack, fittingly called the Link’s Awakening pack. This also include’s 16 new My Fairy costume pieces, a new Adventure Mode map with two challenge scenarios, and a new weapon for Linkle. While some fans may have guessed that Marin would have been chosen based on her popularity, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening has enough unique characters that it was up in the air. Other possible playable characters from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening were the Wind Fish, the owl, or perhaps even the Nightmare.

Marin is the first person Link meets when he washes ashore in Koholint Island, and becomes a good friend to him throughout the game. In the context of finishing the game, Marin teaches Link the Ballad of the Wind Fish, a vital part of getting past some parts of the game, including getting to the ending.

However, Marin has remained popular with fans due to her endearing personality, and hints that she could have had an unexplored relationship with Link. She has an unusual interest in him throughout the game, and at several points, has hinted at wanting to admit to something but never doing so.

Marin Link Link's Awakening

Spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening follow. If you do want to play it yourself unspoiled you should skip the next paragraph.

It eventually comes to light that Koholint Island and everything Link is experiencing in it is a dream, and the moment he wakes up The Wind Fish, it will all disappear. It is implied that Marin never admits her feelings to Link because she knew this dream, and her existence, would end the moment he ends this quest.

Hyrule Warriors Legends is  available now on 3DS in the US and Europe, and the Link’s Awakening DLC will be releasing this summer. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening itself is also available in the 3DS Virtual Console. You can read more about upcoming Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC here and the roster here.
