Retro hit is top of December on the PSN

January 21, 2012 by Mat Growcott

It seems a certain blue blur has sped to the top spot, with fan favourite Sonic CD outselling all its competition in December 2011

What can you say about the state of gaming when an eighteen year old game manages to outsell a brand new spin-off from a major current-gen IP? That's what has happened in the showdown between Sonic CD and Infamous: Festival of Blood on the PSN last month. I'm sure analysts everywhere are putting pen to paper in the hopes of explaining it (profiting from it), but I think the best thing to do is presume its down to critical acclaim for Sonic Generations and the fact that this is the one Sonic game most people haven't actually played (I'm not sure it was ever re-released in the US).

The next few places were taken up by NBA JAM: On Fire Edition, PAYDAY: The Heist and – are you taking note, Europe? – Trine 2. Final Fantasy VI and VII battled it out for first place in the PS Classics department, with other Squaresoft offerings, Chrono Cross and FInal Fantasy V, rounding out the rest of the top five, with the exception of the original Crash Bandicoot, which came in fifth.
