LawBreakers is Cliff Bleszinski’s upcoming first-person shooter, which bends the laws of physics to create intense gravity-based combat in its multiplayer arenas. It’s set in futuristic America, in which participants in a bloody war must choose whether to kill for the nobility of the “Law” or fight against it as a “Breaker.”
Players will fight in iconic locations including a gravity-ravaged Grand Canyon, a totally beat up Mount Rushmore, and the boiling oceans off the Santa Monica coastline. The future really sucks.
Boss Key Games, Blezinski’s new outfit, has announced that LawBreakers will be a digital premium title that you’ll have to pay for—but they’re promising that it won’t carry the $60 pricetag of a traditional boxed game. Published by Nexon America, the game will be released on Steam this Summer.
“As the game continued to take shape, we realized free-to-play wasn’t the right fit for what we’re building,” said Cliff Bleszinski. “LawBreakers is a competitive game at heart and that means balance is a big priority to me, my team, and our community. Using a digital premium model helps ensure an even playing field by giving fans access to every available role without any barriers.”
The developer recently addressed how the FPS will stand out among other giants of the industry in a GDC 2016 panel called “Surrounded by 800 lb Gorillas! Standing Up to the Competition,” where he revealed the game’s shift in design towards a more mature look and feel. He also showed off a number of screenshots that you can check out below.
“Being constantly compared to the current slew of colorful shooters on the market made us realize we needed to stand out from the crowd” Bleszinski continued. “We decided to take a step back and explore how we could dial up the maturity in LawBreakers, going back to our original vision. The new look and feel embraces the innovative and vertical nature of our game elevated by violence, intensity and competition.”
LawBreakers will be playable to the public next month when it’s showcased at PAX East, where Boss Key Games will be present in booth #5116 in the Boston Convention Center.
You can add the game to your Steam wishlist. Be sure to check out the LawBreakers FAQ for everything you need to know about the game.
