Publisher Deep Silver will make a “major announcement” at E3 this year, CEO Klemens Kundratitz has told MCV (via VideoGamer.com), sparking speculation regarding the nature of the company’s plans.
Kundratitz revealed that Deep Silver has “a lot of games in the pipeline and are very much looking forward to E3, where we are not going to be absent and where we will make our next major announcement.”
No plans have currently been announced for the next Saints Row game, Volition’s open world series that has gone from being about gang warfare to include time travelling aliens and a fight with the Devil himself. Volition was purchased by Koch Media, Deep Silver’s parent company, in January 2013 and published Saints Row 4 later that year. A standalone expansion called Gat Out of Hell was released in January 2015 and was co-developed by High Voltage Software. Volition’s next major game has not yet been revealed.
In July 2013, the developer said that the Saints Row series would probably “continue in a different direction” if new games were made. It’s unclear if Volition was referring to Gat Out of Hell or Saints Row 5.
The publisher also owns the rights to several major IP such as Dead Island and Homefront, both of which have sequels in active development. Other possibilities include a new entry in the cult Metro shooter franchise or maybe even a new IP altogether.
Previously, Deep Silver has worked with Grasshopper Manufacture on Killer is Dead and is currently collaborating with Comcept for Mighty No. 9.
E3 2016 will begin on Tuesday, June 14th. It’s possible Deep Silver’s announcement will be made during one of the platform holder press conferences in the preceding days, however.
