Sony has confirmed they will be selling a bundle for PlayStation VR that includes A PlayStation Move controller and a PlayStation Camera.

A Sony spokesperson confirmed the bundle in the middle of a press interview with SCE president for Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida. This answer seemed to have been given off-the-cuff, since they could not share price details at this time.

Shuhei was able to explain why they announced the PlayStation VR as a standalone purchase. While PlayStation VR does require a PlayStation Camera to function, many PlayStation 4 owners already have a PlayStation Camera. Shuhei did not divulge how many PlayStation 4 owners had a Camera. It’s also possible they want PlayStation 4 owners who don’t have a Camera yet to choose to buy one in advance. The PlayStation Camera can already be used for several games and applications, from face scanning to create your own character in NBA 2K16, to motion capture for the Just Dance games. Sony announced they had sold 900,000 units for PlayStation Camera in November 2014.

It’s slightly different for the PlayStation Move controller. Not all PlayStation VR games will use Move, but some of them will require it. As of November 2012, Sony had sold 15 million units for PlayStation Move. However, Sony themselves acknowledged that they could have done a better job with the device. Move struggled in the market the first time because of a dearth of titles that supported it, but with PlayStation VR, it has a second chance.

PlayStation VR will be released in October 2016. It will be sold standalone for $ 399. Sony had previously promised that they would make PlayStation VR affordable for the masses.
