The Nintendo Switch is still selling quite well for Nintendo. Thanks to the sales figures, there might not be as much incentive to bring out a successor. Still, that hasn’t stopped publications from reaching out to Nintendo in hopes of learning anything they possibly can about their next console platform release. Recently, the Associated Press managed to speak with Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser. While most of the conversation was based around the Super Nintendo World theme park, there was a question regarding the successor of the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo has yet to unveil anything regarding what’s to come. Instead, there have been more conversations about the longevity of the Nintendo Switch platform. That is the same point Doug Bowser was making when he was recently asked what’s to come next. The Nintendo of America president commented that they still have a solid lineup coming, and the Nintendo Switch sales are still strong. Similar to what the Nintendo President said, Shuntaro Furukawa, the Nintendo company is in uncharted territory, with the platform still proving to be a strong gaming platform for players.
As we enter the seventh year for the Nintendo Switch, sales are still strong. I think we still have a very very strong lineup coming. As Mr. Furukawa (Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa) said recently, we’re entering uncharted territory with the platform. It’s exciting to see that demand is still there. So nothing to announce on any future console or device, but we are still feeling very bullish about Nintendo Switch.
I should be careful about what I personally would like to see (in a new Switch). But what I can share is that one of the reasons that even going into year seven we feel very confident that the Switch can have a strong performance over the next few years is that it is still truly that unique device that you can play in a variety of ways, at home, on the go. One of the things we look at always is how can we surprise and delight. How can we introduce new unique ways of playing. That’s always in front of our mind.

As a result, Doug Bowser feels bullish about the Nintendo Switch’s future. We should see a few more years for this platform before we start to see any new moves being made on the next platform release. Of course, we’re just as eager to see what the future might hold for the Nintendo company. Nintendo tends to look at bringing new unique ways of playing video games, so there’s no telling if we’ll get a drastic change for the next platform release. Meanwhile, fans have been vocal about keeping the same style of the Nintendo Switch platform but making it a bit more of a powerhouse machine to better compete with competitor consoles.
At any rate, it seems that the Nintendo Switch will have plenty of new video game titles coming into the marketplace to keep players enjoying the console for a good while. For instance, later this year, we have The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Likewise, Metroid fans have been waiting on the release of Metroid Prime 4, which continues to evade being showcased in Nintendo Direct streams.
