1000 Players In One Single Online Match At Once? Sounds Like A Record

January 16, 2012 by Elizabeth DeLoria

FPS multiplayer matches are not a clown car – you can only really fit so many people in one before it becomes sluggish and slow. MuchDifferent, however, plans to change this by taking 1000 gamers and jamming them into one single match of Man vs Machine at the same time.

FPS multiplayer matches are not a clown car – you can only really fit so many people in one before it becomes sluggish and slow. MuchDifferent, however, plans to change this by taking 1000 gamers and jamming them into one single match of Man vs Machine at the same time.

The world record attempt will use PikkoServer, a dynamic traffic router/load balancer created by non-profit orginization MuchDifferent, which they say will hold the load of 1000 players in a single match.

The match itself will be held on January 29th, and will be available to pretty much anyone seeing as Man vs Machine is a browser based game. Okay, so it’s not Battlefield 3 or anything, but that’s not the point – the point is that it’s going to be complete mayhem. Oh the huge manatee.

If you’d like to take part in the record attempt, MuchDifferent is selling tickers through Engineers Without Borders, which will secure you a spot in the game.

I don’t know about you guys but I see like two other players on the map and my PC craps it’s pants, I don’t think it could handle this much carnage.
