Rumor: THQ Suffering Financial Difficulties, Cancels 2014 Release Lineup

January 15, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Word would have it that THQ may be going under pretty soon.

Twitter is abuzz with word that THQ may be going under due to financial problems. Kevin Dent, founder and CEO of the video games consultancy practice Tiswaz Entertainment, has it that things are looking pretty bleak for games publisher. Following the company's 26% stock drop following the release of Homefront, the news shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to anyone who's been following their downward spiral.

Dent is a man in the know, and according to him, THQ canceled their Games Workshop MMO, Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium Online.

Dent continued on, to say that THQ's entire 2014 lineup has been given the axe. Additionally, they are alleged to have returned an intellectual property to Disney despite having paid the advance, with no refund.

THQ is apparently offering itself to Asian firms to increase its value, perhaps as a last ditch effort to stave off closure.

Also heard that THQ are offering themselves to Asian firms to increase value!

The release of Darksiders 2 and Metro: Last Light shouldn't be impacted by the news given that they're supposed to be released in a few weeks, but the development of the third Darksiders title, along with Devil's Third, InSANE, and Patrice Desilets' game—among others—are in doubt if the news holds true.
