Analogue: A Hate Story Is the Latest from Christine Love

January 13, 2012 by Josh Harmon

How do you follow up a game as critically acclaimed as Digital: A Love Story? With antonyms, apparently.

Indie developer Christine Love has revealed her follow up to 2010's suprise hit Digital: A Love Story. As its title suggests, Analogue: A Hate Story is part-spiritual successor, part-antithesis.

Like Digital, Analogue will take the form of a visual novel presented through a computer interface, but the setting will be drastically different. While Digital took place in a forward-looking version of the 1980s, Analogue is set thousands of years in the future, tasking you with unravelling the mysterious disappearance of an interstellar spaceship.

Also unlike Digital: the price tag. While the last game was released for free under a Creative Commons license, Analogue will cost you $15 when it releases later this month.

In Love's own words:

Back in the 25th century, Earth launched a generation ship into deep space, with the goal of establishing the first interstellar colony. It dropped out of contact and disappeared, never reaching its destination.

Thousands of years later, it has finally been found.

Uncover the mystery of what happened to the final generation aboard the generation ship Mugunghwa by reading through its dead crew's logs, with the help of a spunky AI sidekick!

Two pursuable characters. Five endings. A dark visual novel that further extends the non-linear style of Digital: A Love Story in a mystery featuring transhumanism, traditional marriage, loneliness, and cosplay.

Welcome to the future.

Yep, this is already the weirdest game I'll play all year, and it's coming out in January. You can find out more about it on the official page.
