CD Projekt Bails On Plans To Sue Pirates

January 13, 2012 by Elizabeth DeLoria

Remember how we reported earlier that The Witcher developer, CD Projekt, was seeking legal action against those who downloaded the games illegally? Looks like they’re all bark and no bite.

Remember how we reported earlier that The Witcher developer, CD Projekt, was seeking legal action against those who downloaded the games illegally? Looks like they’re all bark and no bite.

“While we are confident that no-one who legally owns one of our games has been required to compensate us for copyright infringement, we value our fans, our supporters, and our community too highly to take the chance that we might ever falsely accuse even one individual.” CD Projekt’s Co-Founder, Marcin Iwinski said in a statement. “So we’ve decided that we will immediately cease identifying and contacting pirates. We’ve heard your concerns, listened to your voices, and we’re responding to them.”

The developer was seeking to get €911.80 out of pirates as compensation for their big no-no. The community has a few things to say about that, however, especially when the developer refused to disclose how they’d be identifying pirates, leaving those who paid for their copies at risk.

“You need to help us and do your part; don’t be indifferent to piracy,” Iwinski continued. “Unless you support the developers who make the games you play, unless you pay for those games, we won’t be able to produce new excellent titles for you.”
