If You Can’t Afford it, ‘Just pirate it’ Says Minecraft Creator

January 12, 2012 by Lyle Smith

Is he serious?

Minecraft creator, Markus ‘notch’ Persson, has told gamers that if you can’t afford it, pirate it!

The statement was made when a gamer tweeted notch indicating that he couldn’t afford Minecraft and thus asked for a “free account”. Notch responded in a surprising way:

“Just pirate it. If you still like it when you can afford it in the future, buy it then. Also don't forget to feel bad. ;)”

It sure sounds like he’s serious, but you never know. He has made over a dozen tweets since then, and hasn't brought it up since.

A few weeks ago, TorrentFreak released its top pirated games of 2011; however, KickAssTorrents indicated that there was not one single game title in the top 50 most commonly searched terms.

Minecraft released its full version last November for the PC after a very long public alpha and beta phase. The sandbox building game is also set for an Xbox 360 release sometime in the first quarter of 2012.
