Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Will Have Dismemberment

February 17, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Finally, a lightsaber that acts like a lightsaber.

Star Wars is known for its epic and incredibly fluid lightsaber battles. This Jedi and Sith weapon is a brutal one and acts as both a means of defense and attack. We know that the weapon is used to slice away at objects to enemies, but for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the weapon didn’t quite feel like a powerful attack. Sure, you could see marks left from where Cal sliced into something. But this is a weapon that should easily take off a limb or two. Fortunately, it looks like the development team has opted to be a bit more aggressive with their lightsaber battles.

In a new video from IGN showcasing a few combat stances, fans picked up on one little feature. It seems that there is a point in the combat where Cal dismembers a stormtrooper’s leg. This is a quick sequence, and you might have missed it when first watching the video. But once fans took notice, the dismemberment feature was highly raved about online. Fans couldn’t wait for situations to pop up where Cal could quickly take out an enemy with a weapon that actually feels like a real lightsaber.

We’re not sure why this was not a feature showcased before. Respawn Entertainment likely had seen previous comments on the lightsaber feeling a bit underpowered. After all, you can wack and slice a stormtrooper before, and it wouldn’t look like it was actually doing too much damage. Regardless, this footage might have let it slip ahead of time that players can chop off limbs from an enemy. Of course, now the question begs as to what will trigger this feature. Perhaps we’re looking at a sequence that can be pulled out at random, or there may be a certain stance that would allow Cal to offer a more aggressive set of attacks.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor still has a little ways to go before it’s readily available in the marketplace. Respawn Entertainment is set to launch this upcoming installment on April 28, 2023. We know that this narrative will put players five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Again, we’ll follow Cal, who is one of the few surviving Jedi after the Order 66 event took place. When this game does launch into the marketplace, we’ll find it available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
