A New Oddworld Is Coming In 2017

March 14, 2016 by Stephen Daly

The game seems to be a re-imagining of Oddworld Exoddus.

Oddworld Soulstorm
Oddworld Inhabitants has announced a new Oddworld game, titled Soulstorm, for release in late 2017.

The publisher revealed the game title through a new website which offers a few details about the game’s story. Soulstorm is planned as a sequel to Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, which was, in fact, a reimagining of the original Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee game.

While there’s no explicit reference to Soulstorm as a reimagining of Abe’s Oddysee’s successor, Oddworld Exoddus, this certainly seems to be what Oddworld Inhabitants is aiming for.

“There was a deeper, darker, and more sinister story that we never got to tell,” series creator Lorne Lanning commented, as he teased Soulstorm’s origins.

“Soulstorm gives us the opportunity to flesh out more meat on the bones of an original spine, but re-tell the fable from a very different angle.”

Fans of the series will also note that the story seems somewhat familiar:

“Having defeated Molluck The Glukkon, his former boss and RuptureFarms’ meanest inhabitant, Abe soon finds himself – along with 300 newly emancipated Mudokons – without food, water or a place to call home,” a press release states.

“Stranded alone in the desert, they find solace in a strange new brew – a delicious drink that has insidious ramifications for their newfound freedom.”

The game is described as having “a fresh narrative – a complete story retake inspired by our original tale” in addition to “a big visual and cinematic leap aiming to break new ground for Oddworld“.

Oddworld Inhabitants has not released a trailer, artwork or screenshots at this time. However, Abe’s new design will be revealed shortly as the game’s official Twitter and Facebook accounts gain more followers.

You can also sign up for info about the game on Soulstorm’s website, with random 100 subscribers receiving free codes for New ‘n’ Tasty on Steam.
