Horizon Call of the Mountain Has Gone Gold

February 6, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Developers hit the fabled Gold status milestone.

Fans waiting to get their hands on Horizon Call of the Mountain won’t find the game being delayed. This upcoming VR installment to the Horizon franchise has recently hit the fabled gold status for development. This means that we will see the game arrive in the marketplace on time as developers likely continue working on any issues that might get fixed in the form of an update. Regardless, hitting this milestone is called for a huge celebration for the development studio and one that fans are likely just as excited about as it means the game is essentially ready to go for mass production.

If you’re not familiar with a game build going gold means, then we have you covered. Going gold is a term developers use when they reach a build that’s ready for mass production. It’s a build of the game that’s ready for players to enjoy, and it means the game can start being mass-produced for physical sales. That doesn’t always mean that the studio is officially done with the game. There are plenty of times that developers would continue fixing bugs or further polishing the game, which gets sent out as a day-one patch. While that might not be the case here, it’s at least reassuring that fans will likely get this game on time.

We're thrilled to share some exciting news today: Horizon Call of the Mountain has gone GOLD!

The announcement came from the official Guerrilla Games Twitter account. Within the tweet, the developers not only shared the exciting news that the game has reached gold status, but they noted that players wouldn’t have to wait too long before they could step into the game. At the current moment, Horizon Call of the Mountain is set to launch on February 22, 2023, which is the date set alongside the launch of the PlayStation VR2 headset.

If you haven’t been keeping tabs on this game, players are taking the role of a new protagonist named Ryas. We know that this is a former Shadow Carja rebel who is seeking atonement. In order to regain a spot in his former tribe, Ryas is tasked with seeking information on a new threat to the Sundom. While we won’t get to step into the role for Aloy this time around, it’s noted that we’ll see her within this game. We’re just not sure how much of a role Aloy will be playing as a side character in Horizon Call of the Mountain. But again, we won’t have long to wait before we get that answer, as the game will be available later this month.
