To say there were a lot of hopes and desires put into The Last Of Us TV series on HBO/HBO Max would be a grand understatement. Unlike many other properties that have been adapted to live-action TV or movie space, this was a video game hailed as one of the greatest of all time. It had a story and a set of characters placed on a pedestal by many and revered. If someone screwed this up? They would be held accountable. Thankfully, as fans, critics, and ratings prove, the show has been a massive hit, and it’s only two episodes into its season!
That brings us to the upcoming episode 3, which will debut on Sunday. While we have to wait and see it, one of the actors for both the games and the show, Jeffery Pierce, has provided a small tease on Twitter for what’s coming. If you don’t recall the name, Pierce played Tommy in The Last Of Us games, and he’ll play someone called Perry in the live-action series. However, it’s been noted that Perry isn’t in the games and is thus one of the original characters created for the show to help flesh out the story and characters more.
As for what the tease is, he feels the next episode is going to be quite grand:
How it will “take your breath away” is unclear, but many fans were in awe of episodes 1 & 2 and how they depicted the first game’s events within them and expanded them in other ways. If you’re concerned about the “original characters mucking things up,” it should be remembered that Neill Druckmann, the creator of the games who also helped out on the show, said that everything would be fine. Specifically, he noted that while new characters and elements appear in the series, many are based on cut content from the two games.
For example, in the last episode, which we won’t spoil for those who haven’t seen it, they made a major revelation about the infection that turned people into monsters. Furthermore, the opening scene in the show was not from the games but was designed to help nail the intent of what came later.
The real question is how much they will do in each episode and how some of the big shocking moments will be portrayed. If the quality holds, this could easily be one of the greatest adaptations of all time and earn HBO even more awards.
