The Division Broke Sales Records For Ubisoft On Day One

March 10, 2016 by Stephen Daly

Full digital game sales for The Division also broke the company’s records.

The Division has broken Ubisoft’s day one sales record, the publisher announced yesterday.

Their new shooter-MMO-RPG-hybrid sold more copies than other game in Ubisoft’s history during the first 24 hours of availability, the company announced.

The news was announced in an update on Ubisoft’s blog and the company also noted that full digital game downloads of The Division also set records for the company across all three platforms. The Division was already a record breaker for Ubisoft even before launch, as its beta attracted 6.4 million players, the highest number of beta participants for a new IP on current generation systems.

Two years ago, Watch Dogs broke similar sales records for the company. Ubisoft is hoping The Division will help boost its performance after a weak holiday quarter, which was partially due to lower initial sales of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate due to the numerous problems which affected its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Unity.

“The launch of The Division is a tremendous achievement for Ubisoft, and demonstrates our unrivaled capacity to create fantastic new game brands and transform them into entertainment blockbusters,” Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s co-founder and CEO, commented. “This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly, it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s game world, which we are confident they will love.”

Set in a devastated New York, Ubisoft’s game takes place weeks after the outbreak of a major pandemic on Black Friday. In response to the escalating crises, the government activates clandestine sleeper agents known as the Division to infiltrate the city and retake control.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
