Obsidian Entertainment CEO Would Love Another Chance With The Fallout Franchise

January 20, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

There’s no word as to if that will ever happen again.

Obsidian Entertainment is a massive video game development studio. They are known for delivering thrilling RPGs and are also credited with one of the more popular Fallout installments. While Bethesda typically handles Fallout, they did offer the studio a chance to craft up their own game for the series. If you don’t recall, Obsidian Entertainment was responsible for Fallout Vegas. This is still one of the more popular games from the franchise, and it left some fans hoping that Obsidian would get another go for the IP. But that doesn’t mean it will happen. Regardless, there is still some hope that this happens from where Obsidian Entertainment stands right now.

The development studio is already working on some thrilling upcoming RPG projects. If you’re unaware, Obsidian Entertainment has recently brought out Grounded, and they have two other RPG projects in the works. For one, they have the sequel to their previously released The Outer Worlds game. Likewise, they have another brand new RPG coming into the marketplace with Avowed. So they are seemingly pretty full with projects coming out into the marketplace. Recently, Game Pressure reached out to Feargus Urquhart and interviewed the CEO of Obsidian Entertainment.

During the conversation, the publication asked about the interest in going back to Fallout. According to Feargus, the studio is already pretty busy with different projects in the works right now. In fact, they don’t know when exactly they can start up a new project. A guess from the CEO would be sometime toward the end of this year. Although, the head of Obsidian Entertainment would love to make another Fallout game before they retire. There are no current plans to head into retirement, but he at least hopes that another Fallout game is in their future.

We just have to see what’s going on. That’s the best way to say it. There’s nothing in the plans, nothing on the piece of paper that says that. But I’ll stick to what I said. I would love to make another Fallout before I retire. I don’t know when that is, I don’t have a date of my retirement. It’s funny – you can say I’m already 52, or only 52. It’s one of those two, depending on the day. My hope is that’ll happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.

While Fallout has yet to make its way back to Obsidian Entertainment, the team might have a better shot now. Microsoft has acquired both Obsidian Entertainment and Bethesda, so they are under the Xbox umbrella. Additionally, we don’t know just when the next Fallout game will release. Right now, Bethesda is gearing up for the release of Starfield, and after we know they plan to ramp up development for the next major installment of The Elder Scrolls franchise.
