Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2 Practically Confirmed

January 4, 2012 by Mat Growcott

Another return to the Belmont family in 2012, with the semi-confirmation that a sequel could be on the way.

What happens when a game's official Twitter account links to a "best of 2012" article listing an unannounced sequel as one to watch? Even without the coy smiley and the "no comment" comment, it's still pretty suspicious and some of us may be led to believe that Konami are perhaps working on a sequel to 2010's Castlevania: Lord of Shadows.

This isn't the first we've heard about a potential sequel either, with an entry turning up on  Óscar Araujo's, the composer's, resume stating he was working on the next game. Now the dance begins, in which the developers pretend we don't know the game is coming and we take every single thing they publish as confirmation. It reminds me of every single Sony press conference in 2010.

The original game got a metascore around the mid-eighties and was celebrated for its fresh, competent take on a classic series. Original fans could take it or leave it, however, so it'll be interesting to see how a sequel fares.
