Overwatch 2 PvE Could Be Coming Alongside Two New Books

January 17, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

New upcoming books might highlight when PvE might be coming.

Overwatch hasn’t had the most seamless experience when jumping from the first game to the latest installment. Despite the rough patch of updates and tweaks to the gameplay, there is still an active community of players. Another reason some players might log in regularly is to kill time before the PvE component gets released. Outside of PvP, fans have been waiting on a story-driven missions compilation to hit in a PvE game mode. This would also add some new game lore for players interested in the storylines of the different heroes found within the game.

However, that doesn’t mean we have a set release date for the PvE component. Instead, it’s a waiting game, but now new information could help players hone in on when exactly we can expect the game mode. Again, this would be a game mode added rather than a timed event. As a result, you’ll get a story campaign of sorts with players working together against enemy AI. But while we’re waiting on the game mode addition to be added in, two upcoming books might indicate the release is coming towards the very end of this year.

Two books are being released in October and November. The first is a book called Overwatch 2: Heroes Ascendant: An Overwatch Story Collection, which is a collection of short stories. These will highlight different escapades from the heroes found within the game. Meanwhile, the second book is titled Overwatch: Declassified. This book offers more insight into previous missions the heroes embarked on.

These two books that are heading out into the marketplace this year might release surrounding the PvE game mode. Otherwise, it could be marketing materials further to hype up the launch of a PvE mode. Whatever the case, those players who enjoy Overwatch’s lore and world-building might already be interested in picking up the books. This could help hold you over until we add some lore-building missions into the game.

Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 is readily available to play today. This is a free-to-play FPS gameplay experience that you can pick up on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. We also have a Before You Buy of the game when it was initially released. You can view our coverage of the game in the video embedded below.
