Skyward Sword’s Art-Style Probably Won’t be Used Again

January 3, 2012 by Lyle Smith

Aonuma explains why.

Though there were a lot of different and unique looks in the massive franchise, many of the Zelda games did reuse their art-styles. For example, the Ocarina of Time (Majora’s Mask), Wind Waker (numerous handheld and multiplayer games), and even Twilight Princess’ crossbow game.

According to Zelda head-honcho Eijo Aonuma, however, this won’t be the case for the recent Skyward Sword.

“With Wind Waker, the graphics were suited to handheld gaming. Also the game ended with Link embarking on a journey, so it left open the possibility of what comes after the game. With Skyward Sword, positioning it as the first Zelda game means everything else connects to it and comes after it. It becomes a little bit difficult to do something else within that world and certainly much more difficult to do something that comes before it.” Aonuma told Game Informer in a recent interview.

Are they preparing for a new, high-res look for the Wii U? Or does this statement have to do with the future big changes to the franchise? Only time will tell!
