Capcom Explains Monster Hunter Rise Details For Xbox And PlayStation Release

January 13, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

It seems Capcom has ruled out being able to stream Monster Hunter Rise on Game Pass.

Capcom has shared a small FAQ explaining some details regarding resolution and cross-platform save for Monster Hunter Rise.

Monster Hunter Rise is available to play now on Nintendo Switch and Windows via Steam. An updated version will be releasing this January 20, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. With that in mind, many Monster Hunter fans have questions about moving saves over in between the different consoles, having one copy for multiple platforms, and so forth.

The mini FAQ is transcribed below for your convenience:

Q: Do I need to buy a new PS5 version after purchasing the PS4 version?

A: The PS4 and PS5 versions are bundled. There is no need to purchase the software again if you wish to play the game on both consoles.

Q: Can I transfer save data?

A: You can transfer the save data from PS4 to PS5. For the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows version, you can share save data. Cross-saves and save data transfers other than those listed above are not supported.

Q: What resolutions can I play?

A: You can play in the following resolutions at maximum:

  • Xbox One, Xbox One S, PS4: 1920×1080
  • Xbox Series S: 2560×1440
  • Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, PS5, PS4 Pro: 3480×2160
  • Windows: The resolution that can be set depends on the PC specifications.

*Frame rate is variable depending on the gameplay situation. Depending on the performance of the hardware and your preferences, you can adjust the frame rate priority or image quality priority.

Capcom has answered the questions that fans did not have clear answers for, but there are some things they had not brought up here, but where answered elsewhere. For full clarity, we’ll add some of those details here.

First things first, the version of Monster Hunter Rise on Steam is not the same version as will be playable on PC via Game Pass. There is no cross save or save transfer compatibility between the Steam and Game Pass versions. If you do buy Game Pass, you will have one copy of the game that can share its saves between your PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles.

Notably, Capcom seems to have ruled out the ability to stream the game onto a mobile device and play with your cloud save that way. This should be available via Game Pass, but it’s possible Capcom did not prepare servers for cloud streaming. That would make it unavailable to any device, even Xbox consoles and PCs.
