BigBen Interactive and Frogwares just dropped the new trailer for Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter and — spoiler alert — it’s absolutely fantastic. Do we really have to wait until May to play this game?
The story follows the eponymous Sherlock Holmes as he helps Katelyn, a girl attempting to uncover an occult family secret. It’s a cinematic trailer, so of course it’s firing on all cylinders, but this is one of the most engaging trailers to debut this year so far. The production house behind the trailer, UNIT Image, is award-winning and it shows.
The Devil’s Daughter is the eighth Sherlock Holmes adventure/puzzle game in the Frogwares series. It seems like it should be a load of fun to play whether you’re a fan of the BBC miniseries, the original books, or not a fan at all. However, the games are more akin to the original Arthur Conan Doyle novels than the BBC series. Of course, The Devil’s Daughter can never be Sherlock Holmes’s best videogame appearance after his fabulous stint in Ace Attorney, but it sure can try. It’s surprising that Sherlock Holmes hasn’t become oversaturated given how many videogames, films, and TV shows the character has appeared in but perhaps the end is nigh.
Unfortunately, The Devil’s Daughter will not be available on as many consoles as Crimes and Punishment, its predecessor, was, so if you’re still operating a PS3 or Xbox 360 you’ll have to upgrade in the near future to enjoy the series.
Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC starting May 27.
