Mass Effect 5 Pre-Production Progressing Well

November 7, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

There’s still a while to wait for new spacefaring adventures.

As the gaming community marks the annual N7 Day on November 7, BioWare has shared some new information on the progress of Mass Effect 5. The sci-fi sequel, which longtime fans of the Mass Effect franchise have been looking forward to for some time now, is said to be making good progress. However, this may not be happening as speedily as some may have hoped.

In a new blog post published on the official BioWare website, N7 Day 2022 has given the studio an opportunity to share something of a progress report on Mass Effect 5. As explained in the update, “pre-production development has been proceeding very well” on the title, which is being worked on by both Mass Effect franchise stalwarts and new additions to the BioWare ranks. The news of the game still being in the pre-production phase probably shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, although there are bound to be some who’d hoped for more promising news this N7 Day.

The post also explains that although it’s still early days for Mass Effect 5, there’s clearly a lot of work going on behind the scenes. Team members are said to be “hard at work crafting new characters and locations that you’ll love, as well as revisiting many that you’ll remember.” The game has already been confirmed as being a single-player adventure, and will also feature franchise favourite Liara, as was revealed in the game’s official reveal trailer back in 2020. The update also provided fans with a couple of intriguing teasers from Mass Effect 5. The first of these is a new piece of concept art detailing what looks like the construction of a new Mass Relay high in orbit above an unidentified planet. The text at the bottom of the image reads as follows.

“Vaccum-dock Relay Construction Record / Monitoring Station Operated by Green Dagger Ltd. Property of Deepspace Dhow SAV / Ship Captain: Sub-Navarck Soa’Rhal Zhilian-Jones.

For Interior Use Only.SA —–313—– /////11_07_90_000_1000-201.37.23 — File Bat.”

It’s all very mysterious.

Happy #N7Day from across the stars! 💫 We found this interesting footage you may want to 🔍 a bit more closely.

Thanks to an accompanying tweet from the official Mass Effect and BioWare teams, players can also check out this artwork in video format, with an eerie accompanying soundtrack, which will undoubtedly be scoured for further clues by eager Mass Effect fans. What exactly this mysterious intercepted transmission means, we’ll have to wait for further updates to find out. However, the official update does promise that there’s much more to share with eager spacefarers, so hopefully, it won’t be too long until we hear more.
