Apple and Google Have No Interest in the ESRB

December 1, 2011 by Addison Langford

Apple and Google have turned the ESRB and CITA down on their new rating system for mobile games. They think their current system is fine.

Picture unrelated, badass, but unrelated

Poor ESRB, it seems every time you turn around someone has something bad to say about you. OK, maybe thats not quite true but it does appear that they won’t have a place on the app stores for Apple or Android. The ESRB along with CITA recently created a rating system for mobile games, but both Apple and Android said they weren’t interested.

AT&T, Microsoft, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless all said that they were on board for the new rating system, but that doesn’t really mean a whole lot with the two giants declining on the system. The new system would use the same letters as the current system for console and PC games.

A Google representative told Digital Trends, “We’ve put a lot of effort into Android Market’s rating system, which now works well globally. While we support other systems, we think it’s best for Android users and developers to stick with Android’s existing ratings.” Honestly though, why should they instate the new system? They both have their own rating system that seems to work just fine. Why fix what isn’t broken?
