Alan Wake 2 Still On Track For 2023 Release

October 28, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Alongside sequels to Control and the Max Payne remakes.

Remedy Entertainment has provided some reassuring updates for those looking forward to the release of Alan Wake 2. As part of the company’s latest financial review briefing, the highly-anticipated sequel to Alan Wake is still on track to meet its projected 2023 release window.

The financial briefing elaborates on the current state of the game, which is described by Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala as being “in the full production stage” and is “coming together on all fronts.” It certainly sounds as if there’s plenty of confidence in what Alan Wake 2 will bring to audiences, as Virtala remarks on the “encouraging” user feedback Remedy has had on the game so far. “After seeing how the elements are coming together,” he explains, “I’m confident we will launch an excellent game.”

In addition to the update on Alan Wake 2, Remedy’s latest financial report also gives some further insight into its other current projects. The studio is presently hard at work on five additional titles, two of which are two games in the Control franchise. The massively successful supernatural-style action-adventure Control was a big hit for Remedy, who are now developing two new titles within the same universe. The first, known as Codename Condor, is a spin-off from Control and is still in the proof-of-concept stage, according to the report. It sounds as if this could be a multiplayer or co-op game that exists within the same game universe as the first game, although there’s clearly not a lot of information as of yet on what this title will actually look like. Also in development is a larger scale and “bigger-budget” Control game known currently as Codename Heron. Again, this title is in the conceptual stages but sounds as though it may be the potential sequel or follow-up adventure to the 2019 hit.

Remedy is also working in collaboration with Rockstar Games on the remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2. The update explains that both of these projects are still in ongoing development, so we shouldn’t expect to hear anything too major about them for a little while yet.

Finally, it’s been revealed that Remedy is working on Vanguard, a free-to-play cooperative multiplayer game that will be co-published in collaboration with Tencent. While the game is also still in the conceptual stages of development with a small team, the report explains that “Vanguard will be an expansive service-based F2P game with a rich world and selected new elements, making it a game that stands out from other multiplayer games.” We’ll have to wait and see exactly how this unfolds, as Remedy isn’t planning to expand its development team for Vanguard until some point next year. So it’ll be a while before we hear anything further on this one.

As things stand, Alan Wake 2 is expected to be released at some point in 2023. It’ll be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
