Minecraft’s Latest Patch Gets An Early Version Release

February 18, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Minecraft’s 1.9 patch gets a preview release.

stev
Minecraft
is about to be updated to version 1.9. Ahead of that patch’s release, Mojang has put out an early version, which is less polished than the proper release version will be. The final version of the patch is expected to go live on February 25–next  Thursday.

The newly released update fixes a number of bugs, including a rail duplication glitch, a placement error, and a serious bug that breaks save files.

In addition to these bug fixes, the patch also increases the durability of shields and claims to add “34.7% more hype for Minecraft 1.9.”

Mojang says that the patch adds way more fixes and features beyond what’s listed below, and plans to release a full list of changes once 1.9 goes live next week.

To download the update, start the Minecraft launcher and click the “New Profile” button. Check the box that reads “Enable experimental development snapshots” so you can download the update. Keep in mind that this will also allow you to participate in future betas and experimental builds of the game–at least on that profile.

These patches have the potential to corrupt your save games, so you should always keep backups if you decide to opt-in.

Notable changes:

  • Bugs fixed
  • Increased durability of shields
  • Some crystals in the end are protected by cages again
  • Added 34.7% more hype for Minecraft 1.9

Bugs fixed:

  • [Bug MC-96863] – Marker ArmorStand Should Not Have Passenger Offset
  • [Bug MC-97217] – Weird placement of player while riding an entity after swimming with elytra
  • [Bug MC-97235] – Resource pack in minecraft world save file not working
  • [Bug MC-97251] – Rail Duplication Glitch
